Southeast Honors Scholar Athletes

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Nearly half of the student-athletes at Southeast Missouri State University have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The 132 athletes were honored as Southeast Scholar Athletes during a Wednesday luncheon sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital.

The female student-athletes really excelled in the classroom with 72% having a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Overall, 49% of the student-athletes were honored as Southeast Scholar Athletes.

The women's track team that recently won the Ohio Valley Conference indoor track championship had 20 scholar-athletes including nine who had a perfect 4.0 grade point average. In all, nineteen athletes had 4.0 GPA.

The Southeast student-athletes who were OVC Medal of Honor winners were also recognized during the luncheon. OVC Medals of Honor go to the student-athletes with the highest grade point average in OVC sponsored sports. Southeast had 16 athletes win a total of 21 Medals of Honor.

Cheerleaders, Sundancers and student athletic trainers with 3.0 or higher GPA's were also honored.
