Southeast Athletes Bring Home OVC-High 14 Medals of Honor

Brentwood Tenn. (August 9, 2002) - The Southeast Missouri State student-athletes have once again showed excellence in the classroom as they brought home an OVC-high 14 Medals of Honor with 83 student athletes named to the Commissioners Honor Roll.

Southeast had 14 individual Medal of Honor winners, but 20 total awards as Amy Arteme, Jennifer Burke, Kim Krieger, Jessie Thompson, Laura VanHoevelaak, and Kris Woolf earned Medals for both cross-country and track.

Other student-athletes earning Medals of Honor were Derek Winans for basketball, Jen Cross, Karen Schmidt, and Nicole Thiele for soccer, Kelly Birk and Brooke Nett for softball, Kay Ehlke for women's tennis, and Emily Wahlman for volleyball.

Southeast had a record 83 individuals on the Commissioner's Honor Roll with 103 total awards with members of the men's and women's cross country and track teams earning honors for both sports.

The Medal of Honor is awarded to each student-athlete who has the highest grade point average in their particular sport in the conference. The Commissioner's Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes whose cumulative grade point average is 3.25 or better.

Southeast student-athletes had a cumulative grade point average of 2.922 this past year concluding an excellent season on and off the field.
