Oct. 6, 2008 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Six individuals and one team will be inducted into the Southeast Missouri State University Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 5. The Hall of Fame was originated in 2002 and currently honors 49 individuals and 10 teams. The team to be inducted will be the 1990-91 women's basketball team that finished second in the nation. The national semi-finals and finals were held at the Show Me Center and attracted a women's record crowd of 7,064 in the national final against North Dakota State. The individuals include recently retired track coach Joey Haines who was OVC Coach of the Year 20 times; Jim Lohr, NCAA indoor and outdoor high jump champion in 1985; Doug (Berg) Neuse, All-American football player in 1994 and 1995; Kerry Robinson, who spent seven seasons in Major League Baseball with Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, St. Louis, San Diego and Kansas City; Rick Wadlington a track All-American in 1970 and 1971 who still holds the Southeast outdoor shot put record; and Jack Behrens who hit the game winning basket in the 1943 NAIA national championship game. Team members on the 1990-91 basketball team coached by Ed Arnzen include Anne (Cate) Dohogne, Jennifer Cavaness, Sandy (File) Fletcher, Gwen Fitzpatrick, Stephanie (Holland) Lewis, Deana Jackson, Janet (Miller) Varnon, Sherry Mitchell, Alison (Morris) Hermann, Jody (Pugh) Mills, Renee (Rogliardi) Reed, Sarita (Wesley) Scott and Jerri Wiley. Assistant coaches included Alicia Scott and Jill Pizzotti in addition to volunteer coach Chris Janet. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Show Me Center. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. with the induction ceremony to follow. There will be a reception for the inductees at the Show Me Center on Saturday at 3 p.m. and inductees will be introduced at halftime of the basketball game between Southeast and Tennessee State on Saturday, Dec. 6. |
