Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Four individuals and the 1985-86 men's basketball team that finished second in the nation will be inducted into the Southeast Missouri State University Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday at the Show Me Center. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. with the induction ceremony to follow at 7:45 p.m. The ceremony will be televised live on the internet at kfvs12.com.

The inductees will also be introduced at halftime of the Hall of Fame basketball game between Southeast and Tennessee Tech on Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

The individuals include Lisa Foster (softball and basketball, 1987-1989), Mike Gohn (football, 1978-1981), Ed Kiehne (basketball, 1920-1923) and Ed White (track and cross country, 1973-1977).

Foster was a two sport star who was a first team All-America selection in softball in 1989 and was an all-MIAA selection in both softball and basketball. She led the 1989 team that was 37-21 with a .362 average.

Gohn was an All-American defensive end in 1979 and was a three-time all-MIAA selection. A former high school football and track coach, Gohn currently serves as Director of Athletics for the Parkway School District in St. Louis.

Described as a scoring phenom, the late Ed Kiehne scored 48% of his teams points during one season. He was the top scorer in 1920 through 1923. Kiehne, who died at the age of 37, was known as "Big Fritz" during his playing days at Southeast.

White is the only Southeast cross country runner to earn All-America honors for three straight years. He was honored in 1974, 1975 and 1976 with his highest national finish ninth in 1975. White is retired after coaching track and cross country at Fox High School in Arnold for over 30 years. His wife, the former Laura Byrne, is a member of the Southeast Athletic Hall of Fame inaugural class of 2002.

The 1985-86 Southeast basketball team advanced to the national championship game of the NCAA Division II tournament after winning the MIAA Championship, the NCAA South Central Regional Championship and quarterfinal and semi-final games at the national tournament. The team finished the season with a record of 27-7 including a school record win streak of 18 games.

The team was coached by Ron Shumate and assistant coaches Sam Weaver and Alan Barnett. Shumate is now retired while Weaver is head coach at Henderson State and Barnett is head coach and athletic director at Dyersburg State Community College.

Team members included Ronny Rankin, Riley Ellis, Michael Morris, Anthony "Butch" Hall, Ron Armstrong, Eddie Hart, Carl Nicholson, Ray Pugh, Kirt Cochran, Derick Turner, Chris Edwards and Malcomn Henry.

Tickets for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony are $20 and can be purchased at the Athletic Ticket Office in Houck Field House. The public is invited to attend.
