Southeast Softball Complex

The Southeast Redhawks softball team will begin its tenth season at the Southeast Softball Complex in 2008.
The complex contains three regulation softball fields, all of which are lighted. The facility also contains batting cages, a large, air-conditioned press box big enough to accommodate print and broadcast media and bleacher seating for at least 600 people and more if needed.
The real advantage of having four fields at the complex is the possibility of hosting tournaments. Each year in March, the Southeast team hosts the Southeast Softball Classic which brings in top-caliber teams to compete in a weekend tournament. Also, the chance of hosting the OVC Tournament is possible with the facility.
Prior to playing at the complex, Southeast played its home games at Parker Field in the heart of the Southeast Missouri campus. Although the location was great for drawing students, the field did not have a lot of versatility and limited tournament options.
Head Coach Lana Richmond believes the filed is a recruiting advantage for the Redhawks. "Our complex is a selling point on recruiting visits," said Coach Richmond. "We believe we have one of the premier facilities in the conference and we definitely want to show it off. Plus, it helps with hosting tournaments and is great for both practice and games."
The project was among many at Southeast Missouri in an effort to improve its sports facilities. Other projects included new locker rooms for the softball and soccer teams at Houck Field House, new tennis courts located across the road from the softball complex, a Field Turf artificial playing surface in Houck Stadium for the football and soccer teams, the resurfacing of the Abe Stuber track, a new locker room for the volleyball team and new locker rooms for the men's and women's basketball teams at the Show Me Center.
