Men and Women's Track Teams Compete at Missouri Invitational

Cape Girardeau, MO (January 17,2004)- Friday evening the Southeast Missouri State track teams competed in Columbia, Missouri in the Missouri Invitational. This was the teams first track meet after the Christmas break.

Other teams competing in the meet were Missouri, Drake, Oral Roberts, UMKC, Missouri Valley College, Lincoln University and Missouri-Rolla.

Both men's and women's teams recorded several first, second and third place finishes in their first meet back in competition. Junior Daniel Jones placed first in the weight throw with a throw of 54'0. Freshman Juanita Coleman also brought home a first place finish in the 600 yard dash in 1:28.77 and junior hurdler David Herman won the 60 meter hurdles in 8.28 seconds.
 

 

Second place finished went out to senior Kaci Pilcher in the 1,000 meter run in a time of 3:00.97. Junior Heather Jenkins placed second in the weight throw throwing 59'6.75. The women's Distance Medley Relay also took second place in a time of 13:14.80. Competing in the DMR were freshman Missy Moody, freshman Taryn Phillips, sophomore Brooke Woodruff and Pilcher. The men's DMR that consisted of freshman Kirk Nesbit, freshman Mark McNamara, freshman Qunicey Ezuelah and junior Brian Whitehead placed second in 11:17.00.

Third place finishes included Lindsay Zeiler in the mile run, freshman Mark McNamara in the 800 meter run, Woodruff in the 1,000 meters, Chaz Brown in the 600 yard dash, sophomore Andrew Lambert in the long jump and freshman Heather West in the triple jump.

The track team will be back in action this weekend, January 23 and 24 in competition at the Southern Illinois Invitational in Carbondale, Ill. Preliminary heats will begin Friday evening and finals will be run Saturday.
