Track and Field Completes First Day of SIU Saluki Booster Meet

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri State track and field gained a few top-10 finishes as it concluded the first day of competition today at the SIU Saluki Booster Meet, held at the SIU Recreation Center in Carbondale, Ill. No team scores were tallied for the meet.

Senior John Berry (St. Louis, Mo.) claimed his first event title of the indoor season as he posted a leap of 24-01.50 to win the long jump. Freshman Tyler Terry (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) placed third in the event with a jump of 22-04.50 and sophomore Antoine Smith (Florissant, Mo.) finished ninth at a mark of 21-05.50. In the weight throw, sophomore Brandon Colbert (Troy, Mo.) produced a toss of 59-11.25 to finish fourth.

On the women's side, three throwers placed in the top 10 in the weight throw, led by sophomore Ashley Brewer (St. Peters, Mo.), who finished third with a throw of 53-06.50. Freshman Brianna Egbuka (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) placed fourth at a toss of 47-07.25 and fellow classmate Samantha Espiriciueta (Belton, Mo.) finished 10th with a mark of 40-05.50. Sophomore Audrey Harwood (Palatine, Ill.) finished 10th in the pole vault with a mark of 9.06.25.

The Redhawks will compete on the second day of the meet tomorrow morning starting at 10 a.m.
