Throwers Lead Southeast Track Teams

CARBONDALE, ILL. - Southeast Missouri State University shot putters Jay Heddell and Heather Jenkins were both winners at the USA Track & Field Invitational Saturday at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.

Heddell provisionally qualified for the NCAA indoor championships with a throw of 58-8 while Jenkins won the women's shot put with a throw of 46-6 ¾. Brandon Myer was second in the men's shot with a throw of 53-3 ½ while Daniel Jones was fourth at 49-9 ¾.

Jenkins also placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 53-1 ½ while Megan Youse was sixth with a personal best throw of 52-0.

Freshman Andrew Lambert was second in the high jump with a personal best of 6-8 ¼. Shelton Scott was third in the triple jump with a leap of 48-6.

Freshman vaulter Michelle Jett placed fifth in the pole vault at 10-6 with Lori Sarantakis and Megan Rosenkoetter tieing for seventh at 10-0.

Sophomore Meleisa Greene placed second in the long jump at 18-5 with Lindsey Meyr third at 18-0 ¼. Greene also won a special heat of the 55-meters in a time of 7.44 and finished 11th in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.07. Lyndsay Stevenson was fifth in the hurdles in a time of 8.36.

Brooke Woodruff was second in the 800-meters in a time of 2:14.95 while LaQuita Andrews was third in the 400 in a time of 57.66.

David Herman was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.75 while Chad Sierman was fourth in the 3,000 in a time of 8:45.04.

The Southeast indoor track teams will host Alabama-Birmingham, Murray State and Tennessee-Martin in a quadrangular meet Friday at the Student Recreation Center. Field events will begin at 5 p.m.
