Track and Field Complete Regular Indoor Season

Feb. 21, 2005

Cape Girardeau, MO - The men and women hosted their first and only home indoor meet Friday, February 18. This meet served as their last regular season meet before traveling to Charleston, IL for the indoor OVC championships.

Arkansas State, Memphis, Bevil State, and Bethel College traveled to the Student Recreation Center for the Southeast Invitational. Many of the Redhawk athletes held off from competition in order to rest before conference. The competing Redhawks used the meet as a chance to perfect their performances before this weekend's big competition.

For the men, senior Murray State transfer Brian Knippen beat his own number one spot on the OVC best list with a throw of 55'7.25" in the shot put. Matt Jett won the pole vault, Danny Stults won the mile, Tim Jefferson won the 55m dash in 6.48, David Herman won the 55m hurdles in 7.66 and Christopher Poindexter won the 200 in 22.87.

On the women's side, Kathy Coleman won the long jump with a leap of 20'1.25" and the 55m dash in 7.04. She placed second in the 55m hurdles. Michelle Jett won the pole vault with 10'6" and Jen Burke won the mile in 5:14.8.

Coach Joey Haines believes that both teams are ready for conference competition and have the ability to take home conference titles.
