Southeast Women Dominate At Big Clat Classic

MEMPHIS - The Southeast Missouri State University women's track team opened the outdoor season with an impressive 11 wins at the Big Cat Classic hosted by the University of Memphis.

Sophomore thrower Heather Jenkins was a double winner for Southeast, winning the shot put with a throw of 46-1 and the discus with a throw of 154-8. Jenkins led a 1-2-3 sweep in the shot with Megan Youse second (42-9) and Nichole Portell third (42-0).

Hannah Stuckenschneider won the 400-meters in 56.21 and anchored the winning Southeast 4 X 400-meter relay team. LaQuita Andrews was second in the 400 and also ran on the winning 4 X 400 and 4 X 100 relay teams.

Lyndsay Stevenson won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.97 with Laura VanHoevelaak second in 15.70. VanHoevelaak came back to win the 400-meter hurdles in 63.51 with Stevenson second at 67.81 and Lindsey Meyr fourth.

Coleen Burke won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:49.66.

The Southeast domination in the field events also saw Meleisa Greene win the long jump with a leap of 18-3 while Meyr was third at 17-6 ¾. Michelle Jett led a 1-2-3 sweep in the pole vault with a winning height of 10-0 while Lori Sarantakis was second at 9-6 and Megan Rosenketter was third at 9-6.

Senior Courtney Haman won the javelin with a throw of 125-9 while Rosenkoetter was second at 114-11¼.

The Southeast men's team had three wins in the non-scored meet. Shelton Scott won the triple jump with a jump of 47-8 ½, Andrew Lambert won the high jump at 6-4 ¾ and Jordan Willi had the best collegiate pole vault at 14-6.

Jay Heddell was second in the discus with a throw of 164-8 while Justin Myer was third at 164-3.
