Southeast Track Team Is Second at Gatorade Classic

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Indiana State claimed the men's championship and the combined men's and women's championship while Illinois State won the women's title at the 24th annual Gatorade Classic at the Abe Stuber Track & Field Complex. Southeast Missouri finished second in all three categories. Indiana State tallied 182 points to win the men's title while Southeast Missouri was second with 142 and Southern Illinois third with 119. Illinois State scored 155 points to claim the women's title with Southeast second with 133 and Southern Illinois third with 125. Indiana State was fourth with 108 points for a combined men's and women's total of 290. The pair of second place finishes by Southeast netted the Redhawks 275 points in the combined competition. The Sycamores had three individual winner's in the men's competiton with Drew Traub winning the discus, Jordan Fife the 5,000 meters and Aaron Harding the steeplechase. Miles Smith of Southeast ran away from the field in the 400-meters in an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 46.76 and anchored the Redhawks winning 4 X 400-meter relay team. Tim Jefferson won the 200-meters for Southeast. Illinois State got women's individual wins from Tori Gaumer in the pole vault, Betsy McDonald in the 1500-meters and won both relays. Southeast Missouri got wins from Brooke Woodruff in the 800-meters and LaQuita Andrews in the 400-meters.
Amarachi Ukabam of Southern Illinois had an outstanding day with three wins including the hammer throw, shot put and discus. |
