Track Team Competes at Kansas Relays

Cape Girardeau, MO (April 18, 2004) Over the weekend the Southeast Missouri State track and field teams competed in the 77th annual Kansas Relays. Competition began Thursday evening and continued through Saturday afternoon.

On Thursday evening Southeast started on a great note with junior Kris Woolf winning the 10,000-meter run in a time of 39:08.67 and right behind her in second place was teammate Kim Kreiger in 39:54.15.

Other first place finishes for Southeast includes Miles Smith in the 400-meter run. Smith ran 47.18. Lindsay Zeiler was the top place finisher in the 1500-meter run recording 4:36.24.


Megan Youse was second in the discus with a throw of 149-5 while teammate Heather Jenkins was third in the event with 147-8. Brooke Woodruff was also second in the 800-meter run in 2:07.06.

Freshman Alonzo Nelson captured third place in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.52. The 4x100-meter relay team of Natasha Fortenberry, LaQuita Andrews, Nyisha Porter and Rose Fulton was also third with 46.50.

The women's sprint medley relay of Fortenberry, Taryn Philips, Kyra Joiner and Colleen Burke ran 4:12.21 to take fourth place. The men's sprint medley team of Jon Jefferson, Tim Jefferson, Seth Schuster and Jared Tanz also took fourth in the event in 3:29.38.

Kaci Pilcher was fourth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:44.21.

Jay Heddell placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 165-8.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Juanita Coleman, Porter, Woodruff and Andrews were fifth in the event in 3:52.89. The men's 4x400-meter relay of Nelson, Chaz Brown, Tanz and Smith recorded 3:15.68 for seventh place.

The Southeast track team will travel to Des Moines, IA, April 22-24, to compete in the Drake Relays.
