Southeast Track Competes at Illinois

Cape Girardeau, MO (May 1, 2004) Even though the Southeast track team competed in rainy, cold and windy weather conditions at the May Invite held at the University of Illinois this weekend they still brought home several top place finishes.

Jay Heddell was the only athlete for Southeast to win two events this weekend. Heddell threw 16.12m to take first in the shot and 49.58m to win the discus. Andrew Lambert was the only other first place finisher for the men with a leap of 7.09m in the long jump.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Tim Jefferson, Jon Jefferson, Miles Smith and Seth Schuster were second in the event in 41.89.
 

 

Third place finishes include Tim Jefferson in the 100-meter dash (10.77), Miles Smith in the 400-meters (48.55) and Brandon Williams in the javelin (12.51m).

On the women's side Lindsay Zeiler was the only athlete to record a first place finish. Zeiler won the 1500-meter run in 4:37.51.

Second place finishes include Lindsey Meyr in the javelin (32.3m), Michele Jett in the pole vault (3.20), and Megan Youse in the shot (13.26) and also the discus (42.56).

Turning in third place finishes were Lyndsey Stevenson in the 100-meter hurdles(14.31) and Kim Kreiger in the 3,000-meter steeplechase(11:46.30).

The Southeast track team will be competing in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships next weekend May 7 and 8 at Samford in Birmingham, AL.
