Women's Track Dominates OVC

Cape Girardeau, MO (May 9, 2004)The Southeast Missouri State University women's track team dominated the 2004 Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend by scoring 205 team points. Eastern Illinois was second with 101 and Samford was third with 96 points.

Heather Jenkins was once again named the OVC Female Athlete of the Year for her performances in the shot put and discus competitions. Jenkins set a new Ohio Valley Conference and school record in the shot put with a throw of 15.54 meters. Jenkins won the discus in 46.86 meters.

Other first place finishes went to Brooke Woodruff in the 800-meter run (2:08.38), Lindsay Zeiler in the 1500-meters (4:29.04), Michele Jett in the pole vault (3.50 meters), and the 4x100-meter relay team of Natasha Fortenberry, Nyisha Porter, Lyndsey Stevenson and Rose Fulton (46.36).
 

 

Second place finishes include Megan Youse in the discus (42.96 meters), Kia White in the long jump (5.80 meters), Lyndsey Stevenson in the 100-meter hurdles (14.11), Kaci Pilcher in the 1500-meters (4:38.38) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Taryn Phillips, Brooke Woodruff, Jenny Burke and LaQuita Andrews (3:51.83).

Third place accolades went out to Megan Youse in the shot put (13.69 meters), Nyisha Porter in the 100-meters (11.92) and Megan Rosenkoetter in the pole vault (3.20 meters).

Eastern Illinois won the men's championship with 260 points with the Southeast menā€¼sup>TMs team in second with 163 points. Eastern Kentucky was third with 122 points.

Jay Heddell was a double OVC Champion on the men's team with first place finishes in the shot and disc. Heddell threw 17.29 meters in the shot and 49.90 meters in the disc. Miles Smith took first in the 400-meter run in 46.78 and was also second in the 200-meters in 21.39. The 4x400-meter relay team of Alonzo Nelson, Chaz Brown, Jared Tanz and Miles Smith won the event in 3:13.02.

Other second place finishes include Jared Tanz in the 800-meters (1:51.61), Alonzo Nelson in the 110-meter hurdles (14.84), Jordan Willi in the pole vault (4.87 meters) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Jon Jefferson, Tim Jefferson, Miles Smith and Shawn Statler (41.04).

Alonzo Nelson was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.83 and Andrew Lambert was third in the long jump.
