The Southeast Missouri State University women's and men's track teams finished first and second, respectively, at Saturday's 14th annual ASU Kickoff Klassic.

The Otahkians finished with 120 points, well ahead of second place finisher Alabama State, who finished with 91 points. The Indians finished with 109 points, which was good for second place. The host school, Arkansas State, finished one up on the Indians with 110 points.

Both the Indians and Otahkians had clutch performances in the meet, including quite a few first place finishers. Amy Arteme finished first and set a new meet record in the 5K run with a time of 18:38, shattering the previous mark of 19:41. Freshman Meleisa Greene had an impressive debut by winning the women's long jump with a mark of 18'07. On the men's side, Glenn Haley took home the individual crown in the 55 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 7.60. Jaret Willi took first in the pole vault by vaulting to a height of 16'. Shelton Scott placed first in the triple jump at 48'06 and Jay Heddell placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 16.70.

After a Christmas break, both squads will return to action January 13 at the SIU Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
