Southeast Women's Track Wins Saluki Booster Invitational

Men's team finishes third.

For the first time ever, the Southeast Missouri State University women's indoor track team won the Saluki Booster Club Invitational on Jan. 12 at the Southern Illinois University Recreation Center indoor track.

The Southeast women tallied 144 points to win over Southern Illinois with 130, Mississippi State 127, Louisville 88 and Troy State 32.

"Our women performed very well," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "This is the first time we have won this meet and it is good to beat teams like Southern Illinois and Mississippi State."

Individual winners for the Southeast women included Hannah Stuckenschneider in the 400-meters with a time of 58.14 and Anna Verseman in the 1600-meters with a time of 5:31.60. The Southeast 4 X 400 relay team of Robbi Durham, Lyndsey Stevenson, Laura VanHoevelaak and Stuckenschneider also won in a time of 3:54.73.

The Southeast men's team placed third in the Saluki Booster Invitational. The men's meet was won by SIU with 64 points while Mississippi State was second with 42, Southeast third with 40 and Wallace State of Alabama fourth with 33.

Individual winners for the Southeast men included Chaz Brown in the 600-meters in a time of 1:21.46, Tyson Brown in the 800-meters with a time of 1:56.61 and Jaret Willi in the pole vault with a jump of 16-feet. The Southeast distance medley relay team of Tanz, Brown, Chad Sierman and Adam Shupe also won in a time of 10:35.28.

The Southeast teams will be in action again on Jan. 25-26 at the McDonald's Invitational at SIU-Carbondale.
