Southeast Missouri State Track Teams Back to Competition

Jan. 15, 2004

The Southeast Missouri State Track and Field teams will travel to Columbia, MO friday to compete in the Missouri Invitational. The teams have been back on campus for a week preparing for the meet.

The meet will feature Missouri, Drake, UMKC, Oral Roberts and several other Division II schools. The field events will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the running events at 6 p.m.

Head Track and Field coach Joey Haines is expecting solid performances from his senior athletes this weekend. Those seniors include Jay Heddell in the shot put. Collin Sheridan in the pole vault, Lyndsey Stevenson in the 60-meter hurdles and Megan Youse in the shot and weight throw.

"This meet will give us a chance to evaluate how hard our athletes worked over break," said Haines. " We have extremely talented athletes on both teams this year and expect great things from them."

This team returns several NCAA Regional Qualifiers on both the men's and women's teams. Jenkins was an NCAA Regional Qulaifier in the shot put, LaQuita Andrews in the 4x400 meter relay, Brooke Woodruff in the 800 meters and 4x400 meter relay, Stevenson in the 100 meter hurdles and Michelle Jett qualified in the pole vault. For the men, Heddell competed at the NCAA Regional in the shot put, Chad Sierman in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and Jordan Willi qulaified in the pole vault.

Lindsay Zeiler and Chaz Brown will also be competing this indoor season due to injuries in the 2003 track season. Also competing again for Southeast will be senior pole vaulter Sheridan who redshirted the 2003 track season. Sheridan was a former OVC Champion in the pole vault.
