Redhawks Track and Field Successful at Saluki Booster

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri State track and field athletes had impressive performances in their second day of competition at the SIU Student Recreation Center in Carbondale, Ill.

Juli Koenegstein won the mile in 5:10.36. Koenegstein also finished fourth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:47.33 and Brandi Gervais finished eighth in the event with a time of 5:32.26.

Freshman Brianna Egbuka placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 42-03.50 and Ashley Brewer finished 10th in the event with a toss of 39-11.50. Funtasia Clark finished fifth in the high jump (5-01) and sixth in the triple jump (35-08.75). Sophomore Lashonda Conley finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.91.

Freshman Kelley Good placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.26, followed by Danielle Henry who finished sixth with a time of 2:25.36.

Precious Elliot and Rachel Kahle both competed in the short sprints. Elliot finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91, followed by Kahle who finished seventh in 7.97. Elliot placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.41 and Kahle finished ninth in 26:57.

Brandon Colbert finished third in the shot put with a toss of 55-04.25 and teammate Josh Uchtman finished ninth with a toss of 48-04.75. Bilal Hameed finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 48-11.00 and freshman Tyler Terry placed sixth in the event with a leap of 45-02.50.

Dustin Davis finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:41.92. Jason Lumpkin placed sixth in the event with a time of 8:52.64 and Brandon Karcher finished seventh with a time of 8:55.27. Teammate Paul Stemmerman ran to a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.50.

In the men's sprints, freshman Ryan Criglar finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22:54. Chris Gill finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.87 and Chris Poindexter finished seventh with a time of 50.58. Gill and Poindexter teamed up with Robert Delaria and Myron Pettigrew in the 4x400-meter relay to place second in 3:19.19.

The Redhawks will have more track and field action when they compete on January 26 at the Purdue Invitational.
