SOUTHEAST TRACK TEAMS COMPETE AT ARKANSAS STATE
Jan. 23, 2003 CAPE GIRARDEAU - After a lopsided win in last week's McDonald's Invitational at Southern Illinois-Carbondale, the Southeast Missouri State University women's indoor track team will challenge even better competition at Arkansas State on Friday and Saturday. The Southeast women tallied 130 points to win over nine other teams last week. Second place SIU-Carbondale had 82 points. The Southeast men's team, which will also compete at Arkansas State this weekend, was third at SIU-C last weekend. "Our women had a well rounded win at SIU," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "We got solid performances from a number of athletes and showed how well rounded this year's team is. At Arkansas State we will face tougher competition that will include Mississippi State, Mississippi, Memphis, Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Southwest Missouri and a lot of other teams who will have some outstanding individuals." Leading the way for the Southeast women will be freshman distance runner Lindsay Zeiler who won the 3,000-meters at SIU in an Ohio Valley Conference best time of 9:58.30. She also ran a 4:53 mile split on the winning distance medley relay team. Zeiler will run the mile at Arkansas State along with teammate Kaci Pilcher who has the second fastest time in the OVC this season. Jumper Shelton Scott who won both the long and triple jumps at SIU will face tough competition at Arkansas State. Scott has the OVC's best jumps this season with a jump of 49-feet 4 ½-inches in the triple jump and 23-10 in the long jump. |
