Track and Field Sweeps OVC Field Awards

BRENTWOOD, TENN. (Tuesday, January 26, 2010) For the second week in a row the Southeast Missouri State indoor track & field team took home two Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards. Senior Brandon Colbert was named OVC Male Field Co-Athlete of Week and junior Brianna Egbuka was named Female Field Athlete of the Week.

Colbert, a native of Troy, Mo., won the award based on his impressive showing at the EIU Mega Meet this past weekend. Colbert picked up his first individual title of the season as he won the weight throw with a heave of 62’-5.75”. That toss would end up breaking his own school record. He also added a second place in the shot with a throw of 52’-4.75”.

This is Colbert’s third time winning indoor Male Field Athlete of the Week after winning it twice during the 2007 season.

Egbuka, a native of Cape Girardeau, Mo., garnered two runner-up finishes at the EIU Mega Meet. In the weight throw, she recorded a seasons’ best distance of 52’-4.00”. She followed that with a second place showing in the shot put with a throw of 44’-11.50”.

This is the first time Egbuka has received this honor.

Overall the Redhawks have won four OVC Weekly awards. Joshua Uchtman was named Male Field Athlete of the Week and Paul Stemmerman was awarded Track Athlete of the Week on January 19.

Colbert and Egbuka will lead their respected teams head to Bloomington, Indiana this Friday and Saturday, January 29-30 to compete in the Indiana Relays.
