Southeast Track to Compete in Illini Classic

Jan. 29, 2004

Cape Girardeau, MO (January 29,2004) - After an impressive showing at the McDonald's Invitational last weekend the Southeast track team will travel to Champaign, IL to compete in the Illini Classic at the University of Illinois. The meet will be begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Schools competing in the meet will be the University of Illinois, Iowa, Southwest Missouri State and Southeast.

"This weekend we will be competing against schools in the Big Ten," said head track and field coach Joey Haines. " We will be looking for outstanding individual performances from our athletes rather than an outstanding team performance."

Haines see's this meet as an opportunity for his athletes to compete well and move up on the OVC Best List. The OVC Best List is a list of all events that records times and distances and allows the athletes to see how they stand in their events in the OVC.

The men's team has also added two new members to their team. Junior Tim Jeffferson is a junior college transfer from Florissant Valley. Tim was named as a Junior College All-American and will be an asset to the sprint squad. Jon Jefferson, brother of Tim, is a freshman and will also sprint for Southeast. Jon was an all-state performer at Normandy High School.
