CAPE GIRARDEAU - There will be collegiate indoor track and field at the Student Recreation Center on Saturday when Southeast Missouri State University hosts Murray State and Samford in men's and women's triangular meets. The field events will begin at 10 a.m. with the first running event slated for 12-noon.

"Our athletes love to perform in front of the home crowd at the Recreation Center," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "We will be favored to win both the men's and women's meets but with the new NCAA scoring system, the meets will be close and we will have to perform up to our capabilities."

Under the new NCAA scoring guidelines only two participants from a school can score in any one event.

"There are some events where we might have the top four finishers, but only the top two will score," Haines said. "It should be an exciting meet with some good individual performances. Samford has well balanced teams with strength in the distance events while Murray State has some outstanding individuals."

The Southeast women will be led by Hannah Stuckenschneider who won the 600-meters at last week's star studded Indiana Relays. She will run the 400 and on the mile relay team on Saturday.

Freshman Heather Jenkins will be favored in the weight throw and shot put while Sara Kaznica will be favored in the pole vault. Amy Arteme and Kaci Pilcher will lead a talented Southeast group in the distance races.

The Southeast men will be led by Jaret Willi who has the top pole vault in the OVC this season at 16-feet ¾-inch. Shelton Scott will be favored in the long and triple jumps while Glenn Haley will be one of the favorites in the hurdles.

Jay Heddell, the Recreation Center record holder in the shot put, will be the favorite in the shot put and weight throw.
