Track and Field Completes Final Tune Up Before Conference Meet

A few runners, vaulters and jumpers competed in the unscored USA Open at SIU.

Jaret Willi and Jay Heddell both had first-place performances in the USA Open at Southern Illinois University on Saturday.

Willi tied for first in the pole vault by vaulting to a height of 16'5.5". Heddell placed first in the shot put with a throw of 54'8.75".

On the women's side, Heather Jenkins placed third in the shot put with a throw of 45'5.25". Courtney Haman tied for fifth in the high jump with a height of 5'4.25" while Sara Kaznica finished tied for fifth in the pole vault with a height of 10'6"

The unscored meet featured over 20 teams, including Saint Louis, Memphis, Vanderbilt and the host, SIU-Carbonale.

Coach Joey Haines only took a few athletes to the event. The others had the weekend off in preparation of next weekend's OVC Indoor Championships at Eastern Illinois University.
