Redhawks Sweep Weekly OVC Track and Field Awards

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Feb. 22, 2005) - The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks swept the weekly OVC Track and Field Awards.

Brian Whitehead was named Male Track Athlete of the week. Brian Knippen was named Male Field Athlete of the week. Kathy Coleman claimed both track honors and field honors for the women.

Whitehead won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:55.60 at the Redhawk Invitational.

Knippen took the shot put title at the Redhawk Invitational with a toss of 55' 7.25", which ranks first in the OVC this season. He also finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 52' 6.00".

Coleman took first in the long jump with a leap of 20' 1.25" at the Redhawk Invitational. The distance ranks first in the OVC this season and also provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Championships. Coleman also took first in the 55 meters with a time of 7.24 and ran the 55 meter hurdles in 8.21 to place second at the Redhawk Invitational. Her 55 meter time ranks first in the OVC this season.

Coleman has won three Female Athlete of the Week awards.

The Redhawks have taken eleven Athlete of the Week awards in 2005.
