Miles Smith and Brandon Colbert Earn OVC Post Season Accolades

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Senior Miles Smith and sophomore Brandon Colbert have been named Ohio Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Year and Male Field Athlete of the Year respectively.

Smith, a three time NCAA All-American, has posted the only automatic qualifying time in the conference for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships with his 400-meter time of 46.13. The time is tied for best in the nation for the event. In regular season, Smith earned three Male Athlete of the Week awards, which is the most by any competitor in the OVC. Originally, from St. Louis, Mo., Smith will be looking to pick-up his final indoor title at the OVC Championships on Friday and Saturday at Tennessee State University.

Teammate Brandon Colbert, holds the top spots on the OVC Best List in both the shot put and weight throw. He recently broke the Southeast Missouri school-record for shot put in 58-04.50, which provisionally qualified him for the Indoor NCAA Championships. The Troy, Mo., native was selected twice as 2008 OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week.

The 2008 O'Reilly OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held Friday and Saturday at the Gentry Athletic Complex in Nashville, Tenn.
