Heddell Breaks School Record; Others Impress in Final Indoor Meet of Season Men's and women's track and field conclude indoor season at the University of Notre Dame.
March 4, 2002 The Southeast indoor track and field team sent just a few athletes to the University of Notre Dame this weekend in an attempt for them to gain personal marks and possibly qualify for next weekend's NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Although there were no NCAA qualifiers, all of the athletes had impressive showings. Jay Heddell brought home a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 57'8.5". Heddell also broke the Southeast indoor record with that throw. Senior pole vaulter Jaret Willi, fresh off his first-place performance at last week's OVC Indoor Championships, finished second in the pole vault this weekend with a height of 16' 9.5". Jason Campbell finished 14th in the 400m with a time of 48.34. Chaz Brown finsihed the 800m in 20th place with a time of 1:53.1, while Adam Shupe finished in 23rd place with a time of 1:53.9. Shelton Scott finsihed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 48' 2.5". Glenn Haley and David Herman each recorded times in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.01 and 8.26, respectively. On the women's side, freshman Meleisa Greene finished fifth in both the 60m dash and the long jump, with marks of 7.66 and 18' 2.5", respectively. Heather Jenkins finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 42' 9.75". Kaci Pilcher placed 13th in the 800m with a time of 2:14.60. The Alex Wilson Invitational concluded the indoor track and field schedule for Southeast. They will now begin preparation for the outdoor season, which will begin March 23 at the Alabama Invitational. |
