Southeast Track and Field Athletes to Compete in Notre Dame Invitational

March 4, 2004

Cape Girardeau, MO (March 4, 2004) -- Fifteen Southeast Missouri State University track and field athletes will compete this weekend at the University of Notre Dame Invitational. This meet will give the athletes one last chance to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 12-13, 2004.

Junior Heather Jenkins has already provisionally qualified for nationals in the weight throw but is looking to automatically qualify this weekend to give her a definite spot in the national meet. Jenkins has previously thrown 61'7.75 and will need to throw another two feet to meet the automatic qualifying mark.

Many other Southeast athletes are looking to provisionally qualify in their events and are hoping to do so this weekend.

"Notre Dame has one of the fastest tracks in the United States and we are hoping that our athletes will perform at a high level this weekend," said head track and field coach Joey Haines. "We are looking for them to record personal bests this weekend and also move up or make the All Time Best List."
