Heather Jenkins and Shelton Scott Win OVC Honors

March 11, 2003

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Sophomore thrower Heather Jenkins and senior jumper Shelton Scott of Southeast Missouri State University were both honored after winning two events each at the Ohio Valley Conference indoor track championships at Eastern Illinois University.

Jenkins set an OVC, Lantz Field House and Southeast school record by wining the 20 lb. weight throw with a distance of 59-11. She also won the shot put with a throw of 47-5 ¾ and was one of three performers named "Female Athlete of the Meet."

Scott won the men's triple jump (49-7) and long jump (.23-2 ½). He was one of four athletes named "Male Athlete of the Meet."

In the team competition, the Southeast women placed second just 3 ½ points behind league champion Tennessee State. The Southeast men finished third behind Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky.

Jenkins and Scott were also first team all-OVC selections in each event they won. Other Southeast individual event winners who were honored as all-OVC include Jay Heddell in the shot put (59-7 ¾), Jordan Willi in the pole vault (14-11), and Brooke Woodruff in the women's 800-meters (2:13.00).
