Southeast track and field had an impressive outdoor season debut at last weekends Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"We were real happy with the athletes performance," said head coach Joey Haines. "When you have athletes win three events and have numerous top15 finishers against this quality of competition, you are really doing something well."

Jay Heddell finished first in the shot put with a throw of 58'8". That mark, which was the second longest throw in Southeast history, met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. Heather Jenkins discus throw of 156'9" earned her a first place finish in the event. The throw also moved her to second on the Southeast all-time discus distance list. Jaret Willi finished right were he left off during the indoor season, finishing first in the pole vault with a jump of 16'11".

Notables for the Otahkians included Amy Arteme, who finished third in the 10K with a personal record time of 37:40.36. Laura VanHoevelaak also earned a personal record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.4, good for fifth place.

Other top-15 performers were: Kris Woolf (10K), Hannah Stuckenschneider (400m), Kaci Pilcher (1500m), Courtney Haman (javelin & high jump), Meleisa Greene (long jump), Sara Kaznica and Lori Sarantakis (pole vault collegiate) and Jenkins (shot put).

Notables for the Indians included Adam Shupe, who had a very impressive second place showing in the 800m. Jason Campbell finished 12th in the 400m dash with a time of 48.52. Shelton Scott finished sixth in the triple jump with at time of 49' 7 ¼". After his first-place throw in the shot put, Heddell added a sixth place performance in the discus with a throw of 159' 1".
