Track Teams At Mississippi State

March 28, 2008

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Members of the Southeast Missouri State University men's and women's track teams will compete at the Bulldog Invitational at Mississippi State on Saturday.

"We aren't taking full squads to Mississippi State, but it will be good competition for those going," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "Basically we are keeping our sprinters at home to train for next week's SEmotion Relays while the distance runners and field event athletes will compete at Mississippi State.

"Our throwers did very well last Saturday at Southern Mississippi and we expect them to do well again this week. Brandon Colbert qualified for NCAA Regional competition in the shot put and discus. He threw 172-8 in the discus and 55-2 ¾ in the shot. Ben Stricklin just missed qualifying in the javelin with a throw of 199-8 while Lindsay Hearne also just missed qualifying with a throw of 135-9."

They will all throw at Mississippi State on Saturday. It will be the first outdoor meet of the season for the distance runners, pole vaulters and high jumpers. Elizabeth Prewitt-Allen and Kelley Good will run the 400-meter hurdles.

"We are emphasizing the events that we did not have indoors," Haines said. "We hope to do well and have everybody ready to go for the SEmotion Relays."

Four-time All-American Miles Smith will not run at Mississippi State but is looking forward to running at the SEmotion Relays where he will run the 400-meters and anchor the 4 X 400-meter relay team.
