March 30, 2010

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (Tuesday, March 30, 2010) - Junior Tyler Terry was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Outdoor Track & Field Male Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at this past weekend's Alabama Relays. It is his first outdoor weekly honor in his career.

The two-time OVC indoor long jump champion, won his first long jump title of the season on Saturday, March 27. He out-jumped 31 other student-athletes in the highly competitive field with a winning leap of 24'-1.50". That jump was nearly a foot further than his closest competitor and is the best jump in the OVC during this outdoor season.

The jump set a new personal outdoor best for the Cape Girardeau native and ranks 27th nationally.

He is the fourth Redhawk to garner outdoor OVC honors this season. Last week seniors Brandon Colbert and Samantha Espiricueta were each named Male and Female Field Athletes of the Week respectively. Senior Juli Koenegstein garnered Female Track Athlete of the Week.

During the 2009 indoor season, Terry was named OVC Indoor Male Field Athlete of the Week.

Terry will look for his first long jump title at the Joey Haines Invitational this Saturday, April 3. Last season he placed fourth with a jump of 24'-0.50" and in 2008 he finished sixth.
