OVC Honors Southeast Track Athletes

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Ohio Valley Conference has named Southeast Missouri State hurdler Alonzo Nelson the OVC Track Athlete of the Week and jumper Andrew Lambert as the Field Athlete of the Week.

Nelson ran the 400-meter hurdles in a new Gatorade Classic record time of 51.44 which ranks him fourth in the nation this season. Nelson's time also qualifies him for the NCAA Regional.

Lambert won the Gatorade Classic high jump at 6-6 which is the best jump in the OVC this season. He also placed third in the long jump with a jump of 22-10.75.

Sprinter Miles Smith of Southeast has the nation's fastest time in the 400-meters after timing 45.98 which qualifies him for the NCAA Regional.

Thrower Heather Jenkins is qualified for the NCAA Regional in three events, the shot put, discus and hammer throw.

The Redhawks will compete at the Mississippi Invitational on Saturday.
