Southeast Track Looks for Good Performances at Mississippi State

April 8, 2004

Cape Girardeau, MO (April 9, 2004) The Southeast Missouri State track team will travel to Starkville, MS this weekend to compete in the Mississippi State Invitational to be held on Saturday. Schools competing in this meet include Mississippi State, Jacksonville State and Southeast.

"Our main goal this weekend is to get our athletes regionally qualified, we're not concerned about team scores like we were last weekend," said head track and field coach Joey Haines. "Our main focus is for everyone to perform well individually."

On Saturday field events will take action at 9 a.m. with running events following at noon.

"Mississippi State has an outstanding facility and a fast track. Hopefully with some warm weather down there we will produce some great performances," said Haines.

Southeast has three athletes which have already regionally qualified. Those athletes are Meleisa Greene in the long jump, Heather Jenkins in the shot and discus and Jay Heddell in the discus. Southeast hopes to increase the number of regional qualifiers in the meet this weekend.
