April 12, 2002 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - After winning the All Sport Classic last week, the Southeast Missouri State University men's and women's track teams will compete in the Mississippi State Invitational in Starkville, Miss., on Saturday. Men's and women's teams from Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Memphis and Southeast will battle for the team titles. "We had some great performances last week and we just want to continue to show improvement at Mississippi State," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "Our goal all year as been to be fully prepared and at our peak for the Ohio Valley Conference championships on May 3-4. With that in mind, we still have a chance to get some athletes qualified for the NCAA championships." Heddell also has the best discus throw in the OVC this season at 165-feet. Jaret Willi hopes to reach the NCAA qualifying height of 17-feet 2 ¾-inches in the pole vault. His OVC best this season has been 16-11. In the latest OVC list, Shelton Scott has the best triple jump and Glenn Haley has the best time in the 110-meter hurdles. For the Southeast women, Courtney Haman has the best OVC mark in the javelin while freshman Heather Jenkins tops all OVC shot put and discus throwers. |
