Colbert 2nd in Discus at Rain Shortened Sea Ray Relays

Knoxville, Tenn. - Brandon Colbert finished second in the discus at the rain shortened Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee. The final 13 events on Saturday were cancelled due to rain and ligtening.

The cancellation was the first in the 41 years history of the relays.

Brandon Colbert, an NCAA Regional qualifier in the discus, threw 165-4 to finish second. The other top finisher for the Redhawks was distance runner Brandon Karcher who finished fourth in the 10,000-meters in a time of 30:14.75.

The Southeast 4 X 200-meter relay team of Chris Williams, David Reid, Myron Pettigrew and Chris Poindexter finished sixth in a time of 1:25.52 while the Redhawks 4 X 100-meter relay team was 10th in 41.83.

All-American Miles Smith did not run in the inclement conditions. He was not entered in the 400-meters and was scheduled to run in the 4 X 400-meter relay that was cancelled.

The Southeast women got a 10th place finish by Lindsay Hearne in the javelin while Rebecca Martin of Jackson was 14th with a throw of 114-0.

The Redhawks 4 X 200-meter relay team of Natasha Fortenberry, Whitney Thomas, Ore Ibe and Precious Elliott finished 11th.

The Redhawks will compete at Vanderbilt in Nashville next weekend.
