Miles Smith Wins 400 at Sea Ray Relays

Knoxville, Tenn. - Miles Smith of Southeast Missouri State University remained undefeated in the outdoor 400-meters by winning the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee in a time of 45.74 which is the fastest time in NCAA Division I this season.

Smith, a gold medalist in the 4x400-meter relay at the World Championships last summer in Helsinki, Finland, has outdoor victories in the Gatorade Classic at Southeast Missouri, the Mississippi Invitational at the University of Mississippi and at the Sea Ray Relays. He will run at Vanderbilt next Saturday and at the Drake Relays on April 28.

Smith, a junior at Southeast, has the fastest qualifying time for the NCAA Mideast Regional which will be held at the University of Tennessee.

Senior Alonzo Nelson of Southeast placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles at the Sea Ray Relays inm a time 52.0. He was the highest finishing collegian with the top four spots going to professionals.

The Redhawks women's team was led by Heather Jenkins who was fifth in the discus with a throw of 166-0 and Jen Caywood who was fifth in the 5,000-meters in a time of 18:39.41.
