Track and Field Compete at Vanderbilt Invitational


Nashville, TN - The Redhawk Track and Field team traveled to Nashville for the two-day Vanderbilt University Invitational. The men placed second out of 20 teams, with 106.25 points. The women came in 6th out of 20 teams. Several men placed first in their event with many other athletes gaining top place finishes as well.

The men had four first place finishes including Miles Smith in the 200m dash (21.64), Walter Washington in the 400m dash (48.02), Chaz Brown in the 800m run (1:52.09), and Brian Whitehead in the 5000m run (15:04.54). Brandon Karcher was close behind Whitehead, placing second in the 5000m run in a time of 15:05.80. Brian Knippen had a great weekend, placing third in the javelin with a throw of 162'09", and fourth in the shot and disc, 52'10.75" and 153'02" respectively.

For the women, Colleen Burke won the 3000m steeplechase event in 11"07.46. Second place finishes included LaQuita Andrews in the 200m dash (25.82), Brooke Woodruff in the 1500m run (4:35.17), and Nichole Portell in the shot put (43'5.75"). Michele Jett was third in the pole vault with 10'06" and Kathy Coleman was fourth in the 100m hurdles in 14.87.



Qualifying Redhawk athletes will compete this coming weekend in the Drake Relays.
