SOUTHEAST WINS WOMEN'S OVC OUTDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

Nashville, Tenn. - The Southeast Missouri State University women's track team got two wins each from Heather Jenkins and Courtney Haman on the way to the Ohio Valley Conference outdoor track and field championships held at Tennessee State University. Jenkins, named the OVC Co-Track Athlete of the Year, won the shot put and discus while Haman won the javelin and high jump as Southeast rolled up 193 points to claim the title while Eastern Kentucky was second with 174. Defending champion Tennessee State was third with 140.5 and Eastern Illinois fourth with 108. Southeast coach Joey Haines was named the OVC Women's Coach of the Year marking the eighth time he has been selected as an OVC Track Coach of the Year. Other Southeast winners included Brooke Woodruff in the 800, Kris Woolf in the 10,000 and Michelle Jett in the pole vault. Hannah Stuckenschneider was second in the 400-meters and ran a strong leg on the 1600-meter relay team that finished second while Laura VanHoevelaak was second in the 400-hurdles and also ran on the relay team along with Woodruff and LaQuita Andrews. Meleisa Greene was second in the long jump. Southeast finished second in the men's OVC championship with 141 points. Eastern Illinois won the title with 236 points while third place Tennessee State had 127. The Southeast men got individual wins from Brandon Myer in the shot put, Jay Heddell in the discus, Jordan Willi in the pole vault, Shelton Scott in the triple jump and Chad Sierman in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Jared Tanz was second in the 800 while Heddell was second in the shot put and Myer second in the discus.
