Redhawks Second After First Day of OVC Track Championships
May 4, 2007 Charleston, Ill. - The Southeast Missouri State men's and women's track teams are both in second place after the first day of the O'Reilly Ohio Valley Conference Championships. Eastern Illinois leads the men's competition with 85 points with Southeast second with 78 and Samford third with 36. In the women's competition, EIU leads with 73 points with the Redhawks second with 39 and Jacksonville State third with 34. The Redhawks won both the men's and women's steeplechase with Chris Herron winning the men's race in 9:23.50 while Juli Koenegstein won the women's steeple with a time of 10:49.79. Brad DeMattei finished in sixth place while Linnea Woldvelt was third. Brandon Karcher won the 10,000-meters for the Redhawks men in a time of 31:26.88. The women got big points in the javelin with Lindsay Hearne finishing second, Rebecca Martin third and Brenda Whitworth sixth. The men got big points in the shot put with Brandon Colbert second, Bill Nekula third and Andy Glass fourth. In the men's long jump, John Berry was second and Anthony Harris fifth. Ryan Doty was fourth in the high jump while Jon Henfling was fifth and John Berry seventh. The OVC championships conclude on Saturday with the competition beginning at 11 a.m. |
