Southeast Track Athletes Compete At Indiana University Meet will be last before regionals
CAPE GIRARDEAU - After finishing second in both the men's and women's Ohio Valley Conference track and field championships, Southeast Missouri State University will have several entries in the Billy Hayes Invitational on Saturday at Indiana University. Southeast men's entries at Indiana will include Jay Heddell in the shot put and discus, Jaret Willi and Collin Sheridan in the pole vault, Shelton Scott in the triple jump, Jason Campbell in the 400-meters and Adam Shupe in the 800-meters. Heather Jenkins will compete in the discus for the Southeast women while Courtney Haman will enter the javelin. "Several of our athletes have a chance to at least provisionally qualify for the NCAA championships," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "After a strong all out team effort at the conference championships last week, we will concentrate on individual performances at Indiana." Heddell is already provisionally qualified in the shot put with a throw of 58-feet 9 ½-Inches and has a personal best of 170-feet 11-inches in the discus where a throw of 180-5 is needed to provisionally qualify. Willi, who has a seasonal best of 17-feet in the pole vault, needs a vault of 17-3 to provisionally qualify. Jenkins, a true freshman, needs a throw of 164-feet to qualify in the discus. Her best this season is 162-9. Haman needs a javelin throw of 150-10 to qualify. Her seasonal best is 141-9. Seven Southeast track athletes won all-OVC honors by winning events at the OVC championships. Heddell won the shot put and discus, Scott won the triple jump, Willi won both the pole vault and long jump and Jason Campbell won the 400-meters. Jenkins won both the shot put and discus for the Southeast women while Sara Kaznica won the pole vault and Haman the javelin. |
