Heddell Second In Shot Put at Georgia Tech
May 18, 2003 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Jay Heddell of Southeast Missouri State University placed second in the shot put at the Georgia Tech Invitational with a throw of 57-1 ½. Heddell was also fifth in the discus with a throw of 161-6. Southeast had no additional NCAA qualifiers, but posted some solid performances against a very talented field that included a number of unattached athletes. Shelton Scott had a seasonal best triple jump of 52-2 which ranks fourth on the all-time list at Southeast. He was the second highest collegian finisher and was fourth overall. Brandon Myer was fourth in the discus (164-0) and sixth in the shot put (54-6) and Andrew Lambert was ninth in the high jump at 6-5 ½. Chad Sierman placed fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:24.94 while Jared Tanz placed 22nd in the 800 in a time of 1:52.43. Heather Jenkins was fourth in the women's discus with a throw of 160-11 and placed 10th in the shot put (47-4 ¼). Courtney Haman finished fifth in the javelin with a heave of 144-3. On the track, Laura Van Hoevelaak was 14th in the 400-hurdles (60.54), Lyndsey Stevenson was 17th in the 100-hurdles (14.34), LaQuita Andrews was 21st in the 400 (55.53) and Brooke Woodruff was 22nd in the 800 (2:12.01). |
