Track to Compete in NCAA Mideast Regional Championships

Cape Girardeau, MO (May 25, 2004) The Southeast Missouri State track and field team will send thirteen athletes to Baton Rouge, La this weekend May 28-29, to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional held at Louisiana State University.

Junior Heather Jenkins is the only female athlete that will be competing in two events this weekend. Jenkins has qualified in the shot put, discus and the hammer throw, but will only compete in the shot and disc. Jenkins is seeded 12th in the shot and 7th in the disc in the Region.

Sophomore Brooke Woodruff will compete in the 800-meters where she is seeded 12th in the event.

Sophomore Michele Jett will compete in the pole vault as will sophomore Lindsay Zeiler in the 1500-meters.
 

 

The 4x100-meter relay team of Natasha Fortenberry, LaQuita Andrews, Nyisha Porter and Rose Fulton will also compete at the Regional.

Junior Meleisa Greene also qualified for the Regional in the long jump but will not compete due to an injury.

Senior Jay Heddell will compete in two events this weekend. Heddell has qualified in the shot put and discus. Freshman Miles Smith will run in the 400-meters and on the 4x400-meter relay. Smith is seeded 10th in the region in the 400m.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Alonzo Nelson, Chaz Brown, Jared Tanz and Smith will compete this weekend. Nelson has also qualified and will compete in the 400-meter hurdles.

The meet will be held at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium at Louisiana State University. The meet is scheduled to begin with field events beginning at noon and running at 4 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday field events will again start at noon with running at 5 p.m.
