Miles Smith Wins NCAA Regional 400-meters

Bloomington, Ind. - Southeast Missouri State sophomore Miles Smith won the 400-meters at the NCAA Mideast Regional and now advances to the NCAA finals in Sacramento, Calif. Smith's winning time of 45.16 is a new Southeast school record.

Smith is the first Southeast track athlete to win an NCAA Regional title. He also anchored the Southeast 4 X 400-meter relay team that finished sixth in a time of 3:06.49. The relay team of Alonzo Nelson, Chris Poindexter, Chaz Brown and Smith has an outside chance of gaining an at-large berth in the NCAA national finals.

Nelson also placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.73. He has a chance to gain an at-large berth for the national finals.

Kathy Coleman placed 11th win the women's triple jump with a jump of 18-4 1/4.

As a team, the Soiutheast men tallied 15 points to place 16th in the NCAA Mideast Regional.
