Stuckenschneider Qualifies for NCAA Regional Finals
May 30, 2003 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Senior Hannah Stuckenschneider had the sixth fastest qualifying time in the 400-meters to reach the finals of the NCAA Mid-East Regional. Stuckenschneider finished second in her heat in a time of 54.48, finishing behind Dee Dee Trotter of Tennessee who had the fastest qualifying time. The top five finishers in Saturday's final will qualify for next week's NCAA finals in Sacramento, Calif. Senior Courtney Haman finished ninth in the javelin competition with a throw of 142-1. Sophomore Heather Jenkins finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 49-1 ½. She fouled on two of her three throws. Senior Laura VanHoevelaak finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.28, second fastest time in Southeast school history. Freshman Brooke Woodruff was 17th in the 800-meters in a time of 2:12.23. The Southeast men were led by senior Brandon Myer who placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 176-11, the third best discus throw in Southeast history. Jay Heddell was 24th with a throw of 155-11. Senior long jumper Shelton Scott fouled on every jump and did not place. He entered the competition ranked 14th nationally in the long jump and could still grab one of the six at-large spots in the NCAA finals. Scott will compete in the triple jump on Saturday. |
