Southeast has no automatic qualifiers for NCAA Track National Finals

There were no automatic qualifiers for next weekends NCAA Track & Field finals at Sacramento, Calif., but the Southeast Missouri State University track and field athletes had some strong performances at the NCAA Mid-East Regional at Ohio State.

Senior jumper Shelton Scott still has a chance to picked as an at-large entry in the long jump and/or triple jump. He entered the regional ranked 14th nationally in the long jump and 19th nationally in the triple jump. The six highest ranked individuals after the top five from each of the regionals will be added to the field.

Scott was 23rd in the triple jump at the Mid-East Regional with a jump of 48-4. It was his only legal jump of the long jump and triple jump competition. He fouled on all three long jumps and two of three triple jumps.

Southeast finished 35th out of 78 teams in the women's competition while the men were 37th out of 78 teams in the men's division. Southeast was the highest finishing OVC school in both the women's and men's competition.

Scoring for the Southeast women were Hannah Stuckenschneider who finished eighth in the 400-meters and the 1600-meter relay team of Stuckenschneider, Laura Van Hoevelaak, Brooke Woodruff and LaQuita Andrews that finished seventh.

Senior Courtney Haman finished ninth in the javelin competition with a throw of 142-1 but failed to clear a height in the high jump.

Sophomore Heather Jenkins finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 49-1 ½ and came back to place 12th in the discus with a throw of 146-7.

Senior Laura VanHoevelaak finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.28, second fastest time in Southeast school history. Freshman Brooke Woodruff was 17th in the 800-meters in a time of 2:12.23. Lyndsey Stevenson was 24th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14.

Brandon Myer and Jay Heddell were the only Southeast men to score. Myer placed seventh in the discus with a throw of 176-11, the third best discus throw in Southeast history. Heddell was 24th with a throw of 155-11. Heddell came back to place eighth in the shot put with a throw of 56-11 ½ while Myer was 23rd with a throw of 52-9 ¼.

Chad Sierman placed 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:16.11.
