Heather Jenkins Qualifies for NCAA Finals in the Discus

June 2, 2004

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University junior Heather Jenkins has qualified for the NCAA Division I finals in the discus.

Jenkins currently has the 22nd best throw in Division I this season with a heave of 173-feet 4-inches on April 3. She is the Ohio Valley Conference discus champion and placed 17th at last week's NCAA Mideast Regional.

Jenkins, named the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year for both indoor and outdoor track in each of the last two years, placed 15th in the NCAA discus finals in 2002.

"Being ranked 22nd nationally is no small accomplishment," said Southeast coach Joey Haines. "Heather is capable of getting off a big throw in the national finals. She is one of the elite throwers in the nation."

A nominee for OVC Female Athlete of the Year, Jenkins is the OVC record holder in the outdoor shot put and indoor weight throw.

The NCAA Track finals will be held at the University of Texas in Austin, beginning on Wednesday, June 9
