Michele Jett Named Academic All-American
June 22, 2006 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Senior pole vaulter Michele Jett of Southeast Missouri State University has been named to the second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America track and field team. Jett, the Ohio Valley Conference indoor and outdoor pole vault champion, has a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in nursing. She also won the OVC indoor and outdoor titles in 2004 and was an NCAA regional qualifier in both 2004 and 2006. A three-time OVC Medal of Honor winner, Jett was a four-time Southeast Scholar Athlete. She has been on the Dean's list at Southeast for four years. "It is awesome to be named an Academic All-American," Jett said. "Just looking at the list of All-Americans shows me what an elite group I have joined. I am proud of my accomplishments on the track and in the class room at Southeast." Redhawks track coach Joey Haines indicated he could always rely on a strong performance by Jett. "Michele was a talented athlete who worked very hard to become a championship pole vaulter. She also worked hard in the class room to become a 4.0 student in a very tough nursing program." |
