Miles Smith Advances to USA Track & Field 400 Semi-Finals

Carson, Calif. - Miles Smith of Southeast Missouri State University advanced to the semi-finals of the USA Track & Field 400-meters by posting the third fastest time in the opening round.

Smith, a graduate of Riverview Gardens High School in St. Louis, was second in his heat in a time of 45.52. He was beaten by Olympic 400-meter bronze medalist Derrick Brew. The fastest time in the opening round was by Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner at 45.29.

The semi-finals will be on Friday with the finals on Saturday. Saturday's finals will be televised by ESPN.

Smith, the Ohio Valley Conference and NCAA Mideast Regional champion in the 400-meters, had a faster qualifying time than NCAA champion Darrold Williamson of Baylor who timed 45.58.
