Miles Smith Delays Professional Debut Until Tuesday in Switzerland

July 10, 2008

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Former Southeast Missouri State sprinter Miles Smith has delayed his professional debut until Tuesday in Luzern, Switzerland. He was originally scheduled to run on Saturday at the Cork City International Track & Field meet in Cork, Ireland.

Smith, a four-time All-American at Southeast who placed 12th in the recent USA Olympic Trials, will face a talented field in the 400-meters. The EAA Premium meet will attract top 400-meter runners from around the world.

"I'm looking forward to starting my pro career," Smith said. "My leg feels good and I'm ready to run a good time on Saturday. Track is really big in Europe and it will be a thrill to run before a big and enthusiastic crowd."

Smith, who was sixth at the NCAA championships, has been hampered by a leg injury suffered during the Ohio Valley Conference championships on May 3.
