Miles Smith Will Compete In USATF Mid-Summer Classic

July 13, 2005

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Miles Smith, a member of the USA track team that will compete in the World Championships, August 6-14 in Helsinki, Finland, will run the 400-meters on Sunday at the USATF Mid-Summer Classic in Azusa, Calif.

The Mid-Summer Classic at Azusa Pacific University will be a tune- up for the USA Track & Field men's and women's World Championship team members who aren't currently competing in Europe.

Smith, a Southeast Missouri State University All-American, is looking forward to the competition. "I just want to go out there and run fast with a time in the 44's or low 45's," Smith said. "My workouts at Southeast have been going great, but it will be good to be back in competi tion. I just want to stay sharp for the World Championships."

Smith will be a member of the Team USA 4 X 400 relay team in Helsinki. He will run the open 400 at 9:20 p.m. (CDT) Sunday in Azusa. His personal best time of 45.16 is the fastest of the invitational entries at Azusa.
